I'm not a fan of the rear brake for slow speed manuevers. Just as you said, it brings the bike more upright. The problem being that a motorcycle will turn sharper the further it's leaned over.

Try working on your counterbalancing and clutch/throttle control and you'll gain better slow speed ability. If you find yourself going to fast, by all means use your rear brake. However, that shouldn't be a problem as long as you're riding your clutch as you advocate in the video.

The beauty of it is that there's no "right way"--it's about what makes you most comfortable. Had a GSXR1100 and that was all about counterwieghting the darn thing, the DRz is much more forgiving (and 200lbs lighter). The DRz actually responds to the rear brake more...forcefully? But the bars are wide enough you can just push it right back down.

I try not to set a "hard rule" about things because there's always an exception...

Thanks for looking! :righton:

I'd like to learn more about the stopping without putting a foot down. I'm somewhat decent at it, but I know I'm not getting it quite right.

Personally, I just keep the bike 'tight' with tension from the clutch...that seems to help.

Capt,

Are you going to make a bunch of these vids? Or have you already?

Your vids are hilarious and entertaining. Are you a MSF instructor? You should be. I think your humor would help to calm the nervousness in those newbies at the BRC.

I vote to keep the vids coming!

Crunch away! We'll make more. No, I am not an MSF instructor...though I play one on TV (wink wink).

Just finished watching this...great vid man! Very helpful indeed, thanks. From the video I got a good handle on what you were saying about the rear brake but don't quite get what you were talking about using the clutch.

Thanks for the video, I'm able to maneuver much better now at low speeds because of it.
