Hello everyone.

My name is Steve and I hail from Richmond, Virginia. I'm relatively new to the motorcycle scene, although I've wanted a bike since I was young (I'm in my mid-40 now). Recently passed the MSF class, recently got my "M" license endorsement, and recently bought my first bike (used 2004 Kawasaki Ninja 250R).

I love the bike and I love riding. I'm going to try to ride year-round (commuting to work), so I'm trying to get geared up for cold weather (no pun intended!).

My wife also recently passed the MSF, so I am starting to look for a second bike for myself.

Looking for something in the 600cc range, something with good MPG, good performance, a standard bike that's between a cruiser and and sportsbike... something that both camps would appreciate (I don't like the riding position of cruisers and true sportsbikes). Maybe the Suzuki SV650? I don't know yet.

Anyway, just thought I'd introduce myself. Hope to meet anyone from Richmond and do some riding.

Steve

Nice!

It sounds like you like standard bikes. There are a class of bikes called 'trailies' or 'multi-sport' like the Ducati Multistrada, Suzuki Vstrom (650), and Kawasaki Versys (650). You might not get the Versys in the states though.

Good luck!

Any big bike rallies down in the Richmond area, or poker runs?

Hello and welcome!! Glad also to hear that your wife is riding with you, nothing like it when you are both out there together, whoo hoo!! ;)

Also glad to hear that you both have taken the MSF courses. The one thing about riding with your spouse is you have to pay MORE attention to each other and try not to fall into the habit of thinking that you know where the other one is going and then to have an accident because of it. Pay attention to each other just as you would another rider until you both are familiar with the other's riding habits, but even then, be aware!

I had a close friend who died that way, so just be cautious and have fun!

Welcome!! You are pretty lucky, my wife won't go anywhere near riding with me. Sometimes I think that is good, because it can be an escape for me, but other times I wish she was there to enjoy that great moments when you are on an open road with no one in site.. Just something that is so peaceful and relaxing.
