Ninja 250 smoking / burning oil?

Hi all. I need some opinions.

I had my son take my 92 Ninja 250, sown to our other house to park it in the garage for the winter.

When he got down there, he left it running in the yard, to go unlock the garage door. When he came back up, my wife and my son saw that my bike was smoking out the exhaust and the right side of the engine.

I didn't see this, as I was at work at the time. But, just prior to me taking off from work, I put some stabil in the tank.

I'm thinking possible causes is a blown ring, or valve setting. I just had this bike at the shop about 2 months ago and I didn't put that many miles on it since then. Maybe 25 or so.

Any ideas that I might want to look for?

If it's a top end that needs rebuilt, it'll cost more than the bike is worth.

Thanks!

Well it could be two things

1.) Too much stabil will make the bike smoke, but it's just the stabil

2.) If it was cold you might have just seen condensation burning off.

Anyway- are you sure it's burning oil?

WHEW! It wasn't oil.

I started my bike and let it warm up, then held it up, checked the oil and it was good.

What they saw was coolant dripping from the overflow tube, onto the exhaust, causing the smoke. That line is now re-routed, away from the exhaust.

As far as the oil light. When my bike "stalled", the oil light came on.

I gotta adjust the idle. It does seem like it's idling a little low.

You'll probably want to check into the coolant drip too. That's not normal and can result in a nasty surprise if you get any coolant on your rear tire.

Never thought of that. Thanks for the tip.
