I am 5'6" could I fit onto a 29.3" seat height?

#1 Unread post by gregggyf »

Good afternoon,

I am 5'6" and I was wondering if I could comfortably sit (with two feet flat on the floor) on a motorcycle with a seat height of 29.3"?

The cycle in question is a Nighthawk.

Thank you very much.

Maybe, it depends on a lot of things - inseam, seat width, suspension sag, your confidence in having your feet down. Really the best way to tell is to try sitting on the bike.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

You probably can...what's your inseam? I'm 5'8" with a 32" inseam and sit on a taller bike with no problem. My SV is 31.5" and I can flat foot it. I vaguely recall sitting on a nighthawk last year and having quite a bit of leg flex.

As long as you don't have all your height in your torso, you'd likely fit on a Nighthawk.

The only way to know for sure is to try sitting on the bike. I have less than 31" inseam, I ride a bike with 33" seat height, and I get my feet down (my weight compresses the suspension).

Wow... I guess I really am all torso! I'm 6'2" with a 32" inseam... But with my weight I can almost flat-foot a V-Strom

I've riden bikes that were a little to tall for me before with no problem. Another you might want to think about is being able to back the bike out of a parking spot. I've had trouble getting out of a few drive ways even on my bike which I can flat foot very easily. You can always find a better parking spot but sometimes its nice to just park and go, thats one of the perks of not having a giant cage :)

gregggyf,

I recently unloaded my 1996 Buell S2T that I've had since new. I am 5'7. The bike had me either on tippy toes or committing to one foot or another while stopped. Like one poster mentioned it may be a problem backing up (I use to just jump off, grab the handlebars and walk it back). Once I was rolling it was a great ride.

I road that bike for 10+ years. Having to take your liscence test on it could be another issue I don't know.
