Warming up bike?

I've had most people say that when your bike is cold, you should let it warm up up before you start riding. For me on a cold day 30-50 degrees Fahrenheit, it takes about a minute to warm up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. I was told that it helps coat all the internal parts in oil and such, otherwise they would receive extra wear. I usually just leave the sidestand down when I'm doing this and put on my gloves and helmet. I'm wondering just how important this is considering my bike heats up to like 150 after 30 seconds of riding anyway, as opposed to waiting 2 minutes at idle to hit 100. I ride an 06' SV650.

Longcat,

I was advised to let my 1998 EVO 1340/80CI motor warm a little before running as the motor is made up of different types of metals. Not sure if every motorcycle has a different expectation?

You're supposed to let it warm up before riding, if you rev it up too early without the parts seating right and the oil getting to the right parts you could conceivably damage the motor.
My instructor had a favorite customer, guy would get on his bike, turn it on, redline it, slam it into gear, and wrap it out in every gear on his way out. Couldn't figure out for the life of him why he was always in for seals and parts going bad... :laughing:

Follow the manuals recomendation. If the manual has no recomendation, ask a dealer.

I've got two different routes to work... one is winding two lanes the first half of the 30 mile ride, the other is less than a mile to highway for the trip. Depending on how late I'm running, or how icky the weather is, I'll usually take the two lane route.

With the fuel injection, I don't have to warm it up for long (about long enough time to put on helmet and fasten gloves), but I do warm up my baby on cold mornings. Especially if I'm taking the "fast" route.
