Hello,

new to forum and to bikes

recently bought a 1981 honda cb900 custom
looks and runs great.
the only problem i have is when it sets for a couple of days on the kick stand, it blows oil smoke for about 10 minutes after starting, but when on vertical stand it's just fine. doesn't blow oil smoke any other time,

if you can suggest something to check, i would appreciate it very much

thanks

Your valve guides are wore. When the bike is on the sidestand oil can pool in the left side of the head. The oil burns off in a couple of minutes.

How much oil does the bike use? Are you planning to keep the bike? To repair you'll need to disassemble the upper end and replace the guides.

well, thanks for that info i was hoping for a much easier solution.
i've only had the bike for 37 miles so don't know yet how much oil is
used.
i plan on keeping the bike
of course it's a I-4 engine, haven't looked, but i imagine it is a big
task to remove the head to have valve guides installed and probably cost a bunch

thanks for your help

Its a big job, the engine has to come out and its heavy.
The time and cost involved isn't worth it unless bike had some other value to you.
Simpler to park on centre stand or just keep an eye on oil level.
