Pros: it's easy to handle, very forgiving of newby mistakes, is freeway legal, gets killer gas mileage, it's reliable, and once you get comfortable riding, you can really push it around. It'll do 80-85 easily, once you learn ho to wind it up.

Cons: Some riders feel it's too light for freeway riding (I was one of them...until I rode my SV for a bit and then got back on the Rebel...then taking it on I-80 was no big deal; even at my considerable weight I had it flying at over 80) and you can get the feeling that you've outgrown it sooner than bigger bikes. My only real gripe about it is that between oil changes the shifting can get sticky...problem easily solved by changing the oil more frequently. It's also not the best choice for a really tall rider, imho.

+1. It felt huge in the BRC, but I sat on one for sh!ts and giggles the other day, and it was tiny (I'm 6', 265, BTW). If your a bigger guy look into something bigger. Not because of the engine size mind you, that 250cc is plenty for a newer rider, but because of the actual frame size.
