Last evening Loonette took me to the local fire department holiday party, where she received her official badge for the fire department. A big congratulation is in order! I'm so proud of her for the work she’s done and the dedication to reaching her goals. In the past year she put in the hard work to become an EMT and also a firefighter here in town, and she a dedicated member of a great team of people. Great job honey!

That is fantastic, my wife just completed the Citizens version course and man she knows how hard it is, and your wife to make full fledge fireman (women) is absolutly a great accomplishment and my hat is off to her. May she be safe and sound throughout her carier and let her know that in my house hold when we pray and ask for oversight for Fire and Police officers. Again I cannot express well in words our admeration of her feat. Someone like her just might save our lives some day.
Patrick.

Way to go Loonette!
Are you going to keep a Halogen on the bike now?
At the very least it would give you a break on the ole insurance, active anti theft device

Way cool....another lass has broken the barrier......way to go Loonette.
My father and step-mother, a rather petite Japanese lady were Volunteer Fire Fighters in French Beach (Sooke), BC. I was visiting once when an alarm came in and so accompanied them to the call, a brush fire at a new housing site. It was amazing to watch the ladies of department hump the gear, man (woman?) handle the hoses and fight the fire along side their male counter-parts. Just confirmed what I had already learned in the Force, gender has nothing to do with a persons ability to do any sort of work or labour.

Absolutely!! I discovered during our auto extrication class that a halogen can come in handy for popping tires! That'll teach so-and-so for messing with my bike!
Seriously... I didn't even know this thread was here until today. And it's not totally official yet! I still have two days of practical exams (starting tonight - YIKES), and then two sessions worth of written exams. I'm still nervous about the written exams because I'm not that great at remembering NFPA Standard numbers and stuff like that. Our department only does badges once per year, so mine says "firefighter" because my Chief must have a good amount of confidence that I'll pass. He claims that if any of us don't pass, he'll take the badges back (but he'll have to find mine first!).
The best part was how he introduced me to come up to accept the badge. He said, "because every fire department should have a motorcycle mama". Ah, too sweet!
If all goes well (wish me luck), I'll post a pic of me with my badge after the 12th. Thanks "Scan" (and all else) for the kudos!
Cheers,
Loonette

Is it weird that I just pictured you running to your classes with "I need a hero" playing in the background?
Probably so eh?
Good luck with all your exams.
I'm rootin for ya.
