lowering the rear suspension?
lowering the rear suspension?
I have a ninja 500 that I would like to lower about 1/2 to 1 in. I can get the balls of both feet down but would like to flat foot it to make it easier maneuver around the parking space plus it wouldn't hurt at stops either. I don't think I will need or want to use dog bone/lowering links. I was going to first try to lighten the pre load adjustment on the shock to get more sag. I'm not worried about bottoming out as the shock is set at stock for average rider weight and I'm a straw weight. My question is if I lighten the pre load in back do I have to adjust the front as well?

You need to set shock preload to your weight, it will make bike handle better.
Most stock set-ups are for a 150lbs rider. If you don quite understand how to do it, check out local shops and ask if they can set 'race sag' for you (you need to be on bike to set it up)
The front should be set softer to match rear and if you have adjustable dampening that will also need adjusting softer.
It should be possible to get everything done for about 1 hr labour charge without any other charges.
You could also look up Race sag setting online, as there is a lot of information for DIY'ers
(but you will need help to set up, two extra people will, be great assistance, one to balance bike and one to do measurements)
