Well, this is it, today is the first day of my BRC. Classroom tonight and riding portion on Sat and Sun. Getting pretty excited.

Well, done with the classroom, now on with the fun stuff. The classroom was a tough one to sit through I'll tell ya.

Does your course only have one classroom session?

Typically here, the courses are 3 classroom sessions, 3 parking lot sessions and then 3 road riding sessions. And they do fill up quickly.

If you can't get into a group class, there is always the option of paying a bit more for a one on one private instructor.

It was one 4.5 hour class room session, followed by two 5 hour riding sessions. I was a little dissapointed in the classroom session, but keeping an open mind until it's all done.

Good luck with the riding part! Do they test you at the end? That way when class is over you have your license.

My class had two 3 hour class room days and then 2 days 5.5 days of riding. The class room wasn't that bad, the instructors made it lots of fun. They passed out numbers and that was your question to look up and tell the class where to find it and what it was. Then they would point out certain things and we watch some simple videos. It broke the evening up.

If you pass the class you get your endorsement at the end. They broke our class up into 4 groups and each group would tackle a few questions and then relate them to the class. After each group went then we'd watch a video on the subject we just covered. My biggest dissapointment was there was very little input from the instructor and the questions didn't really provoke any thought or discussions. The information was there, just think they could've done a better job of presentation.

I also don't think they plugged safety enough. There were 24 of us in the class, 4 of us owned a motorcyle and only 6 had any experience riding a motorcycle of any kind. So, when it came time to discuss riding gear, again not much input from the instructor, I then hear her say to dress in layers and bring a long sleeved shirt so if it gets too hot to wear your jacket you can take it off and still have a long sleeved shirt to wear. WTF??? Seems to me when you have 24 students who have essentially never ridden a bike before you'd want them to wear as much protective clothing as possible. Anyways, maybe I was looking for too much out of the class. The riding part should be a good time, there are some cool people in the class with me.

Reaper, I don't think you were expecting too much. You are correct when you say that a class for beginners should be promoting safety and proper gear.
Not only did the instructor where I took the class talk lots about safety and gear, he also brought in gloves and helmets and boots and jackets and some full leathers for "show and tell".
