I have ordered a new Honda Shadow 750C with genuine Honda windshield fitted. The shop has told me that Honda supply a standard windshield. I am now wondering if this will be too high. Doe anyone know what size the windshield is? Should I be able to see over the top of the shield. I am 5'7" tall.

Generally the shields that comes with your bike is right for the bike. You should be able to see over the shield. If you can't, and you can afford it, you might want to invest in an adjustable shield. I've heard of guys cutting the shield down but I don't know how thats done without messing the shield up.

Generally the purpose of the shield is to buffer the wind away from your chest to make your ride more stable and comfortable.

There are aftermarket sheilds that are smaller but they sometimes look like hell on a bigger bike.

It was more a looks thing for me. i love the look of the little fly screen on my Rebel. The big surprise was that it actually worked better then I ever thought it would. I did get more into function when I bought the shield for my S50 as i've started to take it for my longer trips (getting old I guess) just the bigger they get the less I like looking at them.

You should be able to see over the top. Just enough that your vision won't be hindered by, say, rain drops in the dark (I learned that one the hard way). Also, a shield that is too tall will act as a giant sail causing pull and/or too much resistance. I have friends who don't like to wear helmets, and they tend to use really huge windshields to keep bugs and rocks from hitting their face, but if that's not an issue for you, then you should be concerned with vision and aerodynamics.

To measure for you, have someone help you in the following way: Find out the height of the windshield you're wanting to purchase. Then, with you sitting in a position of normal comfort on the bike, just have someone run a tape measure from just above the headlight to the height of said windshield. Can you see over the tape measure? There ya go.

I bought a "Hell Cat" shield from Memphis Shades because it's totally adjustable (both for height and for angle), and it's easily removable for those really hot days when I don't want the shield on at all. And I'm sure mine was much cheaper than an OEM shield. So think about your other options as well.

I replaced the windshield on my SV650S with one from Givi, it's a bit taller, has a better shape, and is tinted.

I found the stock one caused a lot of buffeting with my helmet, so on the highway my neck would get sore moving side to side.

The new shape eliminated that.

Also the Givi cost $120 while the Suzuki shield was around $200 or so...

Just be aware of the effect of the air on your body and head, but you won't know until you try...
