Apparently it was for sale? I got a call from my mom saying someone her bf has working for him saw the old XR in the shed and was interested in it. Offered $500, which is about what I'd expect from it. Sure, it's a 99, but it's been beat up, abused, riden hard, put away wet, and forgotten about. Odds are, it won't even start. But damnit, it'll be sad to see it go

but it's a real shame having it as it is. One catch, the guy cant get it until march because, get this, he's in jail.
Now to sell the ninja

Money issues are a "dog"

I guess I shouldn't have bought the car, but something needs to go, and the Ninja is the "luxory" item I can go without. I'm not the greatest with money, but this was one hell of a lesson

Sorry to hear about your bike being sold to a convict.
And it's even worse that you'll have to sell your Ninja.
But.. you do live in New England. Having a car is essential during the time we can't do anything on two wheels.
And you can go without it? You're a stronger man than I am, I'd sell the car before I sold the bike. But that's me.

Eh, don't feel too bad Ninja... At least you still have a fast car to drive around, plus it's winter! I'm in riding weather year-round and I drove a stock 97 Camry, the 4 cylinder even!

Dude, I used to think rather highly of you.....
J/K, I know how these things go sometimes.
However, I will ride your azz until you re-bike yourself, so get on it!

Wrider, winter is "poo poo" right now here in MA. It's been raining 2 days straight. If it breaks today, I'm renewing the Ninja's reg and taking it to get inspected, it's THAT warm. Though then again, I have gone out on the dirtbike in sub-40 degree weather before, I am a bit crazy.

please, do. I'm thinking an EX500 GS Adventure
you know, EX500 with a KDX500 swingarm and wheel out back, and random dirtbike forks up front with wheel to match. And some dirtbike shock bastardized in there. I've seen a couple of them online, the thought of a DS that can actually maintain a decent highway speed without extreme vibration and other adverse effects associated with running a thumper at high RPM (hey, i do 75+ on the slab, not gonna lie). Or some sort of retro-ish thing. Or a thrashed 600 I turn into a street fighter type thing. Or maybe.... ?
I'll cope, besides, my car can corner as well as the Ninja just about. I just won't have the speed, though maybe that's a good thing for now, I tend to get a little... wild as spring comes back.

That's an interesting concept for a DS bike, I might think about slappin' a plate on the frame/headtube junction while I had the welder fired up ghetto-engineering the rear shock in..... what about the tank and seat? EX pieces? KX stuff would give the bike a much smaller, more nimble feel, especially off-road.... if they fit and the frame isn't too wide....
I'm thinking of something similarbutdifferent myself. I run a ton most everywhere I go and need another bike that isn't quite so happy north of a felony.
And I bet on the stopwatch, your car out corners every motorcycle on the planet. Physics and the amazing properties of rubber under stress won't allow 2 wheels to outcorner 4. It's just a whole lot more fun on 2..... and it ain't all that bad on 4.
So anyways... go get a dam bike, Boy!
You still here? Ain't there a "Bikes for Sale" site you should be lookin' at? Some convict needing to sell his EX before he gets sent up would be some cool turn-about, eh?

See in NYC I have the option of buses and subways to get around in bad weather. My motorcycle gear comes in handy to keep me warm while walking in Manhattan. I also get to borrow my parents Pathfinder or my bro's Mazda 3. Riding my bike is still 90% of my vehicle usage anyway.
I know when summer rolls around you'll want to have your bike back.
