I find it hard to follow the religious discrimination argument since the law applies to EVERYONE. But, having said that, I work for a Human Rights Commission (I'm just an IT guy though) and one of our investigators thought he should be exempt from the law. She also thought our Supreme Court would probably find a way to "twist" the law to keep from giving him the exemption to avoid opening the flood gates to those wanting to remove the helmet law.

As long as these people (anyone who wishes to ignore the safety of a properly designated motorcycle helmet) are willing to sign a waiver absolving all private and public insurance companies and all private and public medical programs of any social or financial responsibility toward them... then I'm fine with the idea.

Otherwise this person should make a choice between his religion and his chosen recreation.

It annoys me when legislation is bent and twisted to suit minority groups in a multicultural society, you either make a law for all or you dont make it all.

I love living in a multicultural society such as Melbourne Australia its awesome to have all these varying cultures in close contact.

But it makes no sense that I cant walk into a gas station to pay for my fuel with a helmet on (so you goto take ya gloves off then take your helmet off then repeat the process just to hand a guy 10 bucks) when a lady of a particular belief can walk into the same shop in a full berka which is essentially a balaclava on with no issues????? Its illegal for me to enter a shop in a helmet but legal for her to wear a balaclava.....same thing I would of thought.

For an orthodox Sikh, the turban is as much part of his religion as wearing a crucifix or rosary is for some Christian or wearing the Star of David, skull caps and ringlets are for orthodox Jew.

Both the R.C.M.P. and the Canadian Forces already make allowances for orthodox Sikhs religious beliefs by allowing to grow their hair long and sport full beards as long with issuing them officially sanctioned turbans in lieu of the usual regulation headgear.

And I figure that a turban probably offers a hell of a lot more protection for your head then some of those bloody stupid "beanie" caps sported by certain HD riders.

Holey moley....what was the reasoning behind not allowing someone to wear their helmet into pay for your gas?
The only time I have ever been asked to remove my helmet was at the border crossing.

What a dumb rule where you are. Do you have some sort of motorcycle lobby group over there who could help with getting that law revoked?
