Hey, I've been looking at bikes the 2008 250r if i can get a hold of one or the 650r... I am 18 years old never owned a bike before. I have read before that the 650r is a decent beginner bike depending on situations. As said by many I am a careful driver no tickets no accidents first car and still is a 91 Camaro dunno if that has to do with anything but its quite a fast car. {Though I have never been over 70). Someone has said that if when taking the MSF and riding feels natural its perfectly fine. I took the MSF and it was the most fun I've ever had in my life =]. Only time i screwed up was basically putting my foot down once in that box. Any way I felt that riding was pretty simple though they were small 250 old Suzukis. I felt I had good control over everything. That was my first time riding and it was back in October I had not ridden since cause I did not have money to buy a bike then. I will be able to afford a bike in April / May. If anyone could direct me in the right, better choice please do. And if anyone knows an estimate how much insurance would be alone or under my moms name with me as a rider. Much appreciated =]




also if anyone knows how to get a bike from dealership to house since I cant ride on main road, can they transfer it for you? or do I have to tie it down in the back of a pick up truck? along with if i don't live near a parking lot should I just be practicing on my road? its all side roads and what not by me (sorry for dragging on this whole thing)

hmmmmm, start off with a sensible bike ie. under 70hp, dont buy new.
practice practice practice, riding a bike is one thing, riding in traffic is a whole new sport, id be losing the"riding is easy" attitude, that will jus bite you in the end.

Practice locally riding around blocks close to home on streets you know well, then slowly venture out when comfortable. Dont let the traffic push you around, you take your time and ride sensibly, ride to your abilities and where your comfy, most guys in cars who hassel you on the roads are dickless, spinless individuals who dont have the balls to ride themselves.... they are jealous, your above them

riding is the only way to go, your at the start of a very kool way of life, enjoy.

Find yourself a nice little old 400 or so. Not a sportbike. I started on a 1975 Kawasaki KZ400 at 19 years old. ( I'm only 21 now) Believe me it was plenty fast enough to get into trouble, and definitely a blast to ride. I dropped it (slowly) once or twice and it didn't hurt my pocket. I've got an 06 SV650S now (dropped it once, crashed it once), and while it is a great bike, that old KZ was so comfortable and so maneuverable. I definitely made some mistakes on it in traffic that if I were on my SV would have gotten me hurt or worse. Yes, the KZ wasn't too powerful at all, and was definitely lacking in the top end, but it had enough go to hold my own on the freeway doing 80km/h; and I could do about 120km/h on the highway . I was even surprised how much power I still had riding 2up with it.

My first (and still current) bike is a Honda CB 500. I know it is not available there, but I would recommend a 500 or something like that. 650 I think is quite strong, my friend has a 650 and he is quite an experience rider.

Used is a definite must, you don't want to bang up a brand new bike (and you will drop it, such is life!)

buy something used that you don't have to make payments on.
you WILL get some bumps and bruises on it and you don't want that feeling in your gut when you ding it up making rookie mistakes.

yeah, get the 250 but buy it used. i've had a 750 for a few months now, i want something faster already. you'll be trading in that 250r pretty quick after you get the ropes down. so buy a used one, something you wont have to make payments on.
