Hey there,
I am new to this and biking...with an added difference Im getting my bike adapted as I was born with part of my left arm missing and wear a myo-electric arm (that moves)...its one of my life long dreams to be able to ride a bike so I've taken advice from various people and organisations - the NADB (National Association for Bikers with a Disability) have been great and am at the moment getting my Honda CBF 600s adapted so I can learn to ride it...worth the time, effort & money to make my dream come true...
I'm just after any other newbies to this or just in fact anyone who may have an adapted bike that could throw any ideas my way or just generally chat too...Im in south east hampshire UK and can't wait to be able to get on my bike. Hope to chat to you!

I have a good friend who lost his right arm when he was 6. When he hit 18, he bought a mountain bike (non motorized) and worked with a guy to modify it so he could ride. He bought a Honda CB400A (auto transmission) a while back and modified that so he could ride. He has done great with it. That is, when it is running! I should mention that he decided early on after his recovery from his accident that he did not like the prosthetic arm he was using and decided he could do everything he wants with just one. He is a family councilor now, but he was a professional juggler for a time.

As everyone else recommended, Short's blog is wonderful and very inspiring.

Welcome!

Hi Lisa, I recieved your PM. Glad that you've found NABD and are moving forward trying to ride. I have a ton of info in my blog so please check it out. If you have specific questions or just random ponderings on setup or other aspects getting rolling, let me know. If you really want to ride, you'll get there, no doubt about that. It won't be a cake walk, but it can be done :)

Unfortunately I can't give you specific info on exact parts that will work for you or the bike you get. Every bike is different in regards to parts, fitment etc that you'll have to do a lot of trial and error. I did all the work on my bike so I spent a lot of time getting parts how I wanted them. And pretty much didn't take no for an answer through the entire process. I'm stubborn that way I guess

Good luck getting things going.

Thanks Shorts,
Any advice gratefully recieved...I am determined to get there and I'll keep reading thru your blogs. I am glad to have found someone who is stubborn to as I never seem to take no for an answer either when it comes to something I really want to do...
Thanks for replying...take care,
