my question is what if you're going at 50mph and

i know we have to apply both hand brake and foot brake,
but isn't it gonna lock your brakes??
will it gonna throw you away when you brake hard?

Re: brake question
If you're doing 50 MPH and need to do a quick stop, or maximum braking, you're going to do what you practice. If you don't practice, you'll brake far under what the motorcycle is capable of.bria wrote:hi its me again, im a newbie so i have lots of questions.

Using both brakes will not lock wheels. Misapplication of the brakes will cause wheels to lock.
My advice, if you have basic questions like this, is to get professional, in-person training. There is only so much you can learn from an Internet forum or a book. A trained riding instructor can help you improve your braking skills in a controlled area.

Re: brake question
Well the object is to squeeze the brakes as hard as possible without locking them.bria wrote:hi its me again, im a newbie so i have lots of questions.

This takes practice and professional training. Take a class.

Don't just slam on the brakes like in a car. You want to gradually but quickly increase the pressure, not just haul off with maximum pressure all at once.
Give yourself plenty of room and always be planning avoidance moves in your head as you ride BEFORE you need them. Braking is not always the best solution.
As meniotned, practice, practice, practice.

The most imprtant thing to do is to take a beginner's rider course. They will teach you this very thing and give you a chance to practice it. Finally you will have to show that you can do it proficiently to pass the test. But since you ask, you apply as much brake as you can, as fast as you can, without locking them. There are a few skills invoved here and it takes practice. But, great question, as this is one of those things you have to know to survive on two wheels. I always use front first to put weight on the front tire. This increases traction and stopping power. Of course, I ride a cruiser. If you are on a sport bike you have to be a little more careful with that front brake. It would suck to stop in time to avoid the obstacle, but then do a face plant due to an inadvertant and extreme "stoppie".
