I bought a used bike this past weekend and when I got to the guys house it started fine. I looked at the temp gauge and it was dead cold so I knew he hadn't warmed it up before hand. But now it when I try and start it you can hear it starting to kick in but then it dies. I have tried various choke settings and the carbs have been professionally tuned. I think the spark plugs might not be working in all the cylinders but I got it push started today. What do you guys think?

Did you actually feel the engine for heat? Maybe the temp gauge is busted.

Yeah I did feel both sides of the engine and it was cool. I will be taking the plastics off this weekend and inspecting the whole bike. I will be changing the oil and filter, replacing the fork seals and checking the spark plugs. If one or more of the spark plugs isn't working, I think I found my problem.

Dead battery...

batttery was my thought to. Jump it from a car battery with the car not running. See if that does it

Third vote for the battery. If it won't start on the starter, but will push start, that tells you something. It's likely that the battery has enough juice to spin the engine, but that draws down the voltage just enough so that the electronic ignition doesn't have enough juice to fire the plugs at the same time.

Well I went out and put my batterie tender on it and it starts everytime. It was the battery! You smart fools!

But now as im going, lets say 60 mph all of the sudden my bike just starts bucking. Its not a speed thing at all because it will do it randomly, at any speed, and after its done it will die. I thought it was me but I put my dad on the bike and it did the same for him. Is the fuel not getting to the engine?

could be a clogged tank vent.
