Someone gave me this non running bike complete with title. Bike would not turn over. I am starting this "project" on the assumption that the engine is not seized. I tried pop starting and the could not get the rear tire to turn. The rear tire is really bald so I figured it just wasn't grabbing. Most of the electrical on this bike is fried. I have purchased a couple of things to replace...(wiring harness, coils, rectifier) but am worried it might be for nothing. Is there a way to turn the engine manually without the starter? The speedo only had 7K on it so I'm sure the compression is ok.

That may not be a safe assumption anymore. If your rings are frozen to the cylinder walls, all bets are off as far as compression.jonnymar wrote: The speedo only had 7K on it so I'm sure the compression is ok.

If it won't turn don't waist money on the electronics.
Try the easy thing and take both plugs out. At this point compression is just going to make it harder to turn.
Get some penetrating lube in there and let it soak. Some swear by wd40 or even brake fluid.
If you can't get it to turn with the wheel you can see if there is a bolt that you can wrench on that would turn the engine. Leverage helps but too much and stuff breaks so let the lube work for a while(possibly days). You might have to rock it back and forth.
I have even heard of taking off the heads and putting a chunk of wood on the piston and beating on it to get it freed up. Just make sure the piston isn't at the top or bottom of it's cycle.
