Alright Im 22 and I've had my v-star 1100 custom for two years now. Love the bike (could be bigger)..aftermarket pipes and intake..sounds good looks great..whole shebang.

BUT....

After riding some of my friends sport bikes Ive been itching to ride them again. I thought it would go away..but winter has come and gone and Im still driving myself nuts thinkin about the d@mn things.

Im really considering trading my bike in for 2007 or 2008 R6. It has to be a yamaha bike since Ive already got a line of credit through them.

I guess im just looking for some guidance or advice. Im afraid that I will regret making the trade after I do it. But the thing is is that I ride with alot of guys that ride sport bikes. I dont really know alot of guys my age with cruisers and the riding styles are so different. Im just torn and dont really know what kind of answer im expecting from this but...
Ive got the rest of my life to cruise down the highways and take long trips with biker buddies on our cruisers. Not sure how long Ive got to fit comfortably on a sport bike

Also the insurance would cost more.

Anyone here made the same switch?

Have you looked into standard/naked bikes? You get a lot of the performance of a sports bike without the horrific riding position.

The Suzuki SV650/1000 and Honda 599/919 may fit the bill, see if you can give them a shot.

Yah I looked real hard at an sv650 right before I bought my bike. Never got to ride one but i liked the concept. I think I was afraid of the insurance cost at that time. Now Im more financially stable to where its a little more do-able. I should really look into those some more.

You might wanna consider the Yamaha FZ-6, if it's a Yammer you're looking for. R6 engine with a standard riding position. Naked and bikini-faired versions available (though dunno if both are sold in the US). I think the naked version looks better.

Yeah, unfortunately only the Half-faired versions are sold here in the US, but they're still pretty I think... lol

You like what your doing now but you are worried that you might develop the candy store syndrome, candy tastes good in small doses but if you eat it every day you can get tired of it real quick.

You need to really think about the type of rideing you want to do , laid back and easy or getting into the power range at 14,000 rpm, it really two completely different types of rideing, you could look at the Sport Touring bikes, bunches of HP at lower RPM's and room or a 400 lbs screamer with no room that will haul serious balls and get tickets.

If your looking for someone to say your nuts for wanting or at least thinking about doing this I doubt your gonna find it here, you have to define what YOU want, and go for it, at least then you can say you did it, and your right, you can always go back to cruising, I like to say, "Do it while your young so you can think about it when you get old", in the end what it really comes down to is *Your Decision*.

A 600 Class Sport is a great bike. Very nimble. Fast. Remarkably more comfortable than a cruiser. You might also check out the CBR-600 (Honda, highly rated) or Ninja 6-R (Low priced, great bike in my opinion).

I'm a big fan of sportbikes on the track, but for everyday riding, I find the riding position impractical. I like the FZ6 because you get the zip of a sportsbike, with a more reasonable riding position.
