Does Rain Hurt the Bike?

Ok, I'm a rookie. I've got a good set of rain-gear for myself, but what about the bike? I rode for the first time in rain yesterday and couldn't help but be concerned about the gauges and such getting soaked. Does this hurt them?
Thanks,
Randy/TX

The guages are made to get rained on. Don't worry. Chrome, however, that's another issue entirely. (one reason I own a BMW).

Rain? Here on the west coast we know about rain.

I rode my bike all fall and winter during some fairly heavy rainy spells. It got rained on a lot. No problems.
I sure had to wash my bike a lot, though because of all the mud and road grime.

That's the worst part about riding in the rain. Well... if you like to ride a clean bike, that is. Sometimes road munge can be almost chewable.

i wish it would rain here to rinse my bike off. the amount of dust that gathers on it is so thick you can hardly see what color it is.

Thanks guys. I kinda figured since both rain and motorcycles had been around for a while, the manufacturers had figured it out. Call me weird, but I kinda like riding in it. It was a light rain, though. Gave me a reason to wash, wax, and pamper my new toy last night. This motorcycling thing has got to be more addictive than any drug!

Rain CAN hurt the bike Just remember to cover it with a tarp or something if you're leaving it outside for a while in the rain. I left mine outside at a friends one night, and in the morning found it had stormed pretty hard. My turn signals were all screwed up because the water had pooled and seeped into the controls. As long as you're riding it should be fine though. Just don't crash!

Rode in the rain for the first time today, on purpose. (idiot) I echo what KON DEE said...rain does hurt, but it was fun! I just wanted to practice in case I ever got stuck in the rain. Stayed mainly on back roads and the bike handled well. Clutch gets a bit slippery.
Off to dry the bike.

Rain does not have to hurt. I got caught in an icy rain one day, and it felt like needles stinging my face. At the time, I coudn't put the face shield down because it fogged so much.
I now have a shield liner (like Fog City) and it works great. No more fogging up. Then I bought some Sea Drops from a scuba diving shop. I used the drops for the outside of the visor and it makes the water flow away so you can reasonably good visibility.
Now, if I could just do something about the cold fingers. Anybody tried heated gloves? Do they really work?
