I'm about to buy my first bike; wanted to see if anyone had a suggestion as to which of the two i'm looking at I should buy.
2004 Honda CBR600F4i for $6998 - brand new black and red
2005 Yamaha YZF600R for $5800 - used 1000 miles perfect condition; blue
If anyone has any suggestions as to why to get one and not the other I'm all ears, i've read up a lot about both bikes; I really want the CBR but my bank account is pushing me towards the YZF. Thanks

My suggestion is to take the BRC and get a BEGINNERS bike. So neither of the two you listed. They offer no forgiveness for mistakes. You could fart and wind up pulling a wheelie. I really did it with a sneeze on an R6.
The effort you put into finding prices on those, put into research on a bike that is not going to hurt you for the most minor oops.

600's don't make good first (sport) bikes.
Buy something smaller, and used.

G'Day & Welcome Facington!
I hope you buy a bike that is suited to your ability....
It's a good idea to play it safe.

I echo what the others have said. The bikes you mentioned are a bit..."high-strung" for a new rider. I've got over 25K miles riding experience, and they're both much faster than any of the four bikes I've owned. If you like sport bikes, Take a look at something like the Kawi Ninja 500, or the Suzuki GS 500 F. Maybe even the Suzuki SV 650 or SV 650 S. (V-Twin and tuned more forgivingly than the fours.)
You are at an exciting point in your riding "career". You'll remember your first ride forever. Make it one that you won't regret.
