Can't Shift My Motorcycle!

I'm so new to this forum that I can't even tell if my message went through; I neglected to put a subject on it anyway, so here goes again:

I just got a Yamaha XT225 dual sport and am having a really hard time up-shifting with MX boots on. Does anyone know of an aftermarket shift lever extension or a way to reposition it so that there's more room underneath for my boot toe to fit? Thanks for any advice. Nancy

The shift lever should (I could be wrong) be mounted on a splined shaft. If so just carefully remove the lever and reinstall it one tooth up.

Yep, make sure you pull the bolt all the way out, that's what keeps it from going left and right even if the bolt is loose. If one tooth doesn't work, you can probably go up to two, but make sure it still clears the engine covers when you upshift!
