Another birthday, another reason to get out of town! Figured I’d combine a birthday trip down the coast with a fact finding mission for a 2-wheel ride I'll be leading next month. So I rented one of these:
And I packed up one of these:
We were shadowed by one of these:
And we headed down the coast for a few views of this:

River Inn in Big Sur
I’ve driven down Hwy 1 countless times and never seen the waterfall at Julia Pfeiffer State Park so decided to remedy that. I couldn’t believe how close it was to the road and how easy it is to miss!

After much ado, we arrived in Cambria and unloaded and relaxed around the pool… well, I did while Shannon did her Toyota impression.

Full moon over Cambria

Working off the chill
Surprise decorations in the bathroom
After dinner with friends and night’s rest, we journeyed back toward home the long way so I could check out some of the roads for the south coast tour. There are some real gems!

Nacimiento Lake Dr.
Wildflowers are still hanging on
Lockwood-San Lucas Rd. was a nice surprise – great pavement, nice gentle sweepers, and rolling green hills… sure beats the freeway!
It was quite cold the whole weekend and right after this, I gave in and put the top up to temp and high winds. We jetted home via 101. I can’t wait to get back on these roads next month on two-wheels!!
