I am currently trying to put this bike back on the road. I have cleaned the carbs and the bike starts and idels.The problem is that when I open the throttle the bike revs up and then starts to surge, meaning that the RPMs go low then High and so on.
Any Ideas where to look for the problem. I have synched the carbs and that did not help.
Do I still have a carb issue or is it else where?

Does sound like a carb issue. You may need to clean em out.

I'd put some Seafoam in the fuel and try to run that through before taking the carbs off though.

Some new spark plugs or a good examination of the wiring might be in order too.

I ran sea foam through them already and installed new spark plugs and still have the same problem.
Should I take them apart and re-clean them again? The last time I checked all passages and they were clear.

I'm no expert or anything, but I'd probably take em off and go through them again really well.

Might be something else completely though. Others on the board here will probably chime in with better suggestions.

could be some crap that was stuck in the fuel lines came loose after you started the bike, clogged up the carbs again. Also, depending how thourogh you were with the cleaning, you may want to consider bringing the carbs into a small engine place and getting them dipped.

I will pull the carbs off tomarrow and have them diped this weekend.
I just realized that I never changed the fuel filter. I will change this and flush the fuel pump while the carbs a cleaning.
I will post once this is all completed.

Definitely check the carbs for blockages or restrictions again. It could also be an air leak in the intact tract someplace causing the surge.

Well I took the carbs completely apart and cleaned them, again only this time I had them "dipped".
I found that the front carb air/fuel screw was set at 1.25 turns out and the rear carb was set at 2.5 turns out.
Can anyone tell me were they should be to start?
The manual says 2.5 turns for each. I am concerned becouse they are not even near being the same. I know they were never played with because I drilled out the plugs myself. I read somewhere that you should start at 1.5 turns out. Just looking for a good starting point.
