So now that I've got my first bike does anyone have suggestions on what to do to maintain the bike well? I know to lube the chain, but not how (do I have to wipe down the old stuff to get rid of any dirt it's picked up?).
What do you do to keep your bike in good working order?
Any resources with lots of pics for the newbie ?

Pick of a clymers service manual for your bike online. Something like $20. It'll show you how to do everything you'll ever need to do to maintain that bike other than cleaning it.
However, I'd find a local riding club that has maintenance days. We have a few in the area and we teach new guys all about the basics in maintaining their bikes. If they want to get adventurous we go the full 9-yards into valve adjustments, rebuilds, cam upgrades etc
