Battery Overcharging Problem

Hello... Hopefully someone can help me out here.

I recently bought a 1998 Suzuki Bandit 1200S. After getting it home I started having a problem with the charging system. It starts and runs fine for about 5 minutes then starts to miss and break up and eventually quits. If I let it sit for a minute or so it will start right back up and run fine for a couple minutes, then the same problem occurs again. I tried a new voltage regulator, but it is still charging at 15.3 volts at an idle.

If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!!!

That sounds more like an ignition problem to me - especially if you can fire up the bike a few minutes later. I'm suspecting a heat related problem with the ignition, most likely in the coils or pickup. Not being familiar with the layout of your bike, I can't give you much more help than that.

Would that be causing the battery to charge that high too then??

We did try diconnecting the alternator and the charge on the battery dropped to 12 volts, but the bike still ran the same...

Thanks for your input!!!

The bike ran with the alternator disconnected?
