getting an used bike

#1 Unread post by lasmjlsm »

So, I decided that my first bike will be used.

This weekend I'll take a look at three bikes.

2004 Honda Shadow VLX-600 ($3,800)
2003 Yamaha V-star classic 650 ($4,000)
2004 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 ($3,000)

But, since I have never buy an used bike before (I own an scooter -125cc- and got it from the dealer), I have no idea what should I look for.

Any advice about critical points that I should take into consideration when checking the bikes? I think the prices are very reasonable. I haven't seen them yet.

Thanks in advance.
Luis Alberto.

Those are all good bikes. Between the VLX and the Vulcan 500, the Vulcan is less buzzy and is a 6 (or 5?) speed as opposed to the VLX's 4 speed; might not make a difference but a lot of riders prefer having more gears.

Whichever one floats your boat the most, that's the one. Any of them would be a good first bike.

the vulcan 500 is far superior to the 600 vlx from what I've been told but I'm just parroting comments, I'm no expert.
I did come close to buying the vulcan 500, but then the tax man took all my money.

I would take the vulcan over the other two...but 3 g is too much for it.
