I really want a 650, but they are hard to come by...
I was wondering if the F800 was too powerful in your opinion and experience.
Thanks!

You don't say what your riding experience is, so if you are new to riding, then IMO it's too much bike. If you have a year of riding under your belt, I think it's manageable.

If you're a newb, then it's probably too much. I took one for a test spin a few weeks ago at Ride West BMW. Was used to my heavier K bikes so when I put on the throttle coming out of a turn the front end came up a bit before I finished the turn.

Didn't phase me but I don't think a newb would do well on a bike that light with 85hp.
If you want a BMW, take a look at K75s, They're a bit heavy and top heavy so not a good beginner bike for some but would be OK if you're coodinated and have some strength. (And long legs.) In the lower rpms, not much torque. Above 4000 rpm, it's a different bike so there would be lots of bike there to grow into. Don't get a K75RT though, great bike but not for the city and way too topheavy for a newb.

you better watch this before you buy a BMW.
I agree with this guy about his passion for honda vs BMW.

I'm a newbie - so definitely not the bike for me. I'll look for the K75s and still keep an eye open the 650. The reviews I read on the 650 were not bad.
This youtube clip was really funny...Might as well ask: what Honda would you recommend for a beginner?
Thanks for the advice!

I owned a 650 (pronounced "six fiddy") the street version: f650CS belt drive. A sweet little machine. Wouldn't mind having one in the garage as a "play bike" lightweight and FUN!
The K75 is HEAVY. Bulletproof to be sure, but a lot of weight for a new rider. I know of one owner who watched his Kbike spin around in place on a peg in an unfortunate parking lot practice mistake (took a moment to figure out how to get at the kill switch).

BMW stopped building the 650GS a couple years ago I think. Big mistake and they know it. It's back in '07 though.
