Hi there from beautiful Bowen Island, Canada. I am interested in getting a bike, but am 6'5". From what I've researche, my best bet is a bmw f650gs dakar. I like the size and the options. Any other ideas?

Heck of a bike but they get too much money for it IMHO but one thing about it, you will be one of the few that can touch the ground when stopped

Go sit on a bunch of bikes. You'd be surprised at how they fit you. I've seen short guys that only feel comfortable with one foot on the ground and gianormous fellas that are quite comfy on a ninja250. Get a feel for a bunch of motorcycles and see how it works.

I'm 6'4" amd ride a VN1500. MOve your forward controls up enough and you'll be comfertable on almost any cruiser

I'm 6'6" 280 lbs and fit quite comfortably on a Shadow ACE 750.

I think you are on the right track with regard to a dual sport, but I'm a bit biased that way, too.

The Dakar is a nice choice, excellent bike for street and highway, not so good for off-road, but still OK.

I went simpler and cheaper, with the emphasis placed more on better off-road capability. I love the Honda XR650L, a great machine. I'm 5'10" with a 30" inseam.



The 2008 Kawasaki KLR is another good choice, better on road than off. The Suzuki DR650 is another good one at a very good price.

Each year there seem to be more dual sports coming on the market from different manufacturers, a trend I like to see.

I'm 6'05" 250 lbs, and I fit very comfortably on the Buell Ulysses. It's like the bike was made for tall riders, I was actually surprised to learn that the Buell streetfighters are also quite comfortable, but it sounds like the Ulysses would be much more your style.

I'm surprised TMW Mike hasn't responded to this one... he's 6'4" and bought the Suzuki V-Strom. A competitor that would have fit just as well - Kawasaki Versus.
