Hey, my friend bought this Ninja from a friend of his. We are thinkin about gettin it up and running, but we first have to make some repairs. The throttle on the right hand control sticks. I'm not sure if this was done on purpose or not...but whats involved with fixing that? When i say it sticks when you pull it back, it just stays and doesn't move back to it's stationary spot. And if i were to take the bike somewhere to have it done...anyone have an estimate around how much it would cost?
The brake pedal sorta snapped off, my guess is the old owner dropped the bike or something...i'm told that isn't too much to fix.
The final thing is the chain may need to be replaced...this hasn't been advised to me just because the bike has been dormant for a while and there is a little rust on the chain, not sure if just maybe applying some lube would do the trick. But anyway, to whoever has read this thanks for checking it out, and any feedback would be great.
NOTE: as it may seem, i'm not to knowledged on bikes as of yet lol

with the throttle ot is just a matter of lubricating it(WD-40) and working the cable back and forth until it smooths out, unless the cable may be broken

A rusty chain doesn't really mean anything, just clean it up and lube it.

and brake pedals you can find anywhere and everywhere.

get a maintence guide and it will tell you how to replace the brake lever.

I agree with Aggroton, and the manual will have tons of other useful information. How much fluid the bike takes and what kinds are recommended etc. Besides if other stuff is wrong with the bike you are going to need it anyhow.

hey everyone, thanks a lot for the feedback. i'll definately pick up a basic maintenance book/manual. The repairs(more like lubing/cleaning) doesn't sound like too much work or money. Just gotta get the tires checked out to see if they're safe and have enough tred to make them safe to ride on. thanks again!

when you turn the throttle grip does the throttle actually open, or does the grip just move. Often motorccyles will have a return cable along with a forward cable on the throttle. The only thing that would cause the grip to return to the closed position is a return spring that's located on the carb/intake body, that could be stuck/rusted if the cables themselves aren't.

The grip itself doesn't snap back, and it just continues to rev, i can probably just clean it up and have it fine.

The other thing i'm wondering now...i was looking on ebay for a brake pedal, and the exact model of the bike is a 1992 ZX600-C5 Ninja R, I found a brake lever that says it's from 1992 Kawasaki ZX600 D, ZX...would that be the same brake lever ? this guy is selling it for 10$, and that beats the 65$ i saw from a parts website lol
