Beer thread! Post favoirites, least favorites, cheapies, fall backs, etc. As long as it's beer (or close, ie barleywine).

The beer that got me into beers:

Some of my favorites

Smitty's:

It's red. It's irish. It's awesome. Easy to drink, full flavor, and goes great with anything. I love it. Seriously. If it were an Irish Lass, I'd so marry her.

Sam Winter Lager:

It makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Though it could just be because I've had a few of them.

Some StoneBrewery offerings:

I recomend the Arrogant bastrd if you want an ale that makes you go "holy "poo poo", this is beer". The IPA if you like hops. If you REALLY like hops, I hear Dogfish head makes one of the best IPA's in america, the 90 minute IPA. No opinions on that though, havn't had it.

BBC! Local brewers (10 minutes from where I live, and I've still not done the "procreating" tour!) that make some of the best beer I've had, and the most overrated (explain below).

Rasberry Barleywine Style Ale:

One of my all time favorites. Comes out around valentines day, and runs until stock is gone. My roomate drinks imperial stouts that you can't see any light through and wonders how the hell I can drink it like water. It's 9% ABV but you (at least I) don't really taste the alcohol taste you get with high ABV brews. Though then again, my roomate drinks IPA's like water. YMMV. Good luck finding it out of state. If you're close to MA, it's worth the trip to this shithole to pick up a bottle of it. I wouldn't recomend finding a bar with it and having a pint, you still need to make it home.

Steel Rail:

Good beer. Really is. But is very over rated around here. It's the best alternative to bud light, natty ice, etc. The kids who drink that "poo poo", think this is "the "poo poo"" and super high quality. The beer drinkers know it for an honestly refreshing and easy to drink beer, great with a meal, or a game of bowling.

Anchor Steam Liberty Ale:

My good friends Amy and Anthony turned me on to this beer when they came back from a trip to San Francisco. They like it because it reminds them of San Fran. I like it because it's tasty.

Okay, you guys share. Now. Go.

budweiser - (relatively) cheap, high octane, mostly tasty, can get it for $2/pint at my favorite bar woohaa!!! line me up a pint of bud and a shot of beam!

leinenkugel's original - the deer camp beer. oh so tasty

landshark - tastes like summer

pretty much anything they've got brewing at the great dane in madison. unlike most of the other microbreweries around here, they don't add a lot of extra bitterness and crap aftertaste just because a lot of pretentious a-holes like to suffer through what they think is a "good" beer

sol - my favorite mexican beer

point beer - tastes like dodo, but brings back memories of college when we'd give blood and go take the brewery tour to get a free buzz

and when i'm with my dad we drink a lot of pabst. unfortunately now a lot of kids think pabst is "cool" which sucks because the prices are going up.

harp - for when i feel like getting rowdy

This old joke is usually directed up here in Canada to generic American beers -- you know which ones -- and I know that there are good beers in the USA -- so let's apply this to all and any generic beer no matter where they're from:

What do generic beers have in common with making love in a canoe?
They're both effing close to water...

My usual beer when visting the the US is Anchor Steam, and lately Sam Adams.

At home, I drink Great Western Pilsner.

Cheers,

A pint of Pride bitter:

Vancouver Island Herman's Dark Lager - the best dark, cold beer
Image

Sleeman's Honey Brown - a bit sweet, don't have more than 6.
Image

Canterbury - brewed by people who don't know any better, but still tastes great

Image

Kingfisher - It's what curry lovers drink when they're not eating curries.

Arrogant bastrd is f-ing awesome, I love it. Stone does several other good beers too. Check out the Smoked Porter if you want a really intense flavor.

Paulaner Hefeweisen is good if you're into hefe.

Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout is another beer that lets you know it means business.

(I linked one of those to my blog, I've got several amateur beer reviews there. Look around. 8) )
