Very very hard choice for me as I've owned a 1982 Yamaha XJ650R Seca Inline four, a 1984 Honda Magna V-Four and a 1980 Honda CB400T Hawk Parallel Twin. :D

Guess I just can't make up my mind!! LOL

But I would like to try a V-Twin or Single one day as I'm liking the "power off idle" idea...

V-twin for me because that is what the 998 has. The 998 is my favorite bike ever. Just to let everyone know.

I said inline 4, but I have only been on a parallel 2, 3 V-twins, and two inline 4's. I might feel different if I had ridden more, but I really like the way the inline 4 builds power.

Its really hard to say since I've only ridden two thumpers and two I-4s, but I've recently fallen in love with the bikes they've featured in Motor Cyclist.

The Yamaha MT01 and Confederate Wraith are some awesome bikes, both of which are powered by very large displacement V-twins. I've also always loved the sound of a Ducati, TL/SV, or RC bike that's a total racing machine but with that wicked somewhat balanced V-twin machine gun sound.

From a visceral and aesthetic standpoint, I'd say V-twins, but from an engineering standpoint I'd say I-4's. Can't I pick two?

I'm partial to inline fours, so for conversation's sake, I'll say they're my favorite. Really though, I like 'em all, from thumping singles to super-smooth inline sixes. Two wheels is the main thing! :D

V-twin, of course.

(An in-line four is only a yanked about pair of V twins glued together and made to sound like a sewing machine on an adrenaline fix.)

You get my drift...

V4 all the way

4 cylinders are fast.
2 cylinders are half-fast.

V4 all the way for me. The torque of a V-Twin with the horsepower of an inline 4. Smoothest engine I've ever had the pleasure of wrapping my legs around. It really has no equal.

Charles.

For me, it's the inline four. Butter smooth compared to my first bike (Vulcan 500, slightly anemic parallel twin)

And I just love the way they can rev.
