250cc- How much do they hold?

I hate to create a whole new topic for this, but my Google-fu has failed me so far and I can't find exactly what I'm looking for.
I'm basically wondering how much weight the 250cc motorcycles that would be in a MSF class could hold.
I remember being on a small gas powered moped about a year ago. They couldn't have been any more than 100cc, if that much and I did fine, but I'm not sure if that is the same as a motorcycle or not. Although I'm assuming the 250cc would have a lot more power. I wouldn't have any problems holding 320+ pounds would I?
Also, when starting out as a plus sized person, is it best to go straight over something like a 250cc? I had planned on getting a Honda Rebel and then trading up to a Shadow, but maybe I should go ahead and go straight for the Shadow (which is 583cc)?

I have a 2008 Ninja 250R and it's rated for 375lbs. maximum weight.

Guess I read your question wrong. The BIKE itself weighs 330lbs. You're not going to find much lighter, but as long as you don't lean it over too far while sitting parked with your feet down you should be okay as long as the bike has a low center of gravity. A lot of new riders do "dump" their bikes though, no matter what the weight. It's all about balance. If you don't feel comfortable pushing it because you think it's too heavy it might be to heavy for you to be comfortable riding on.

I have a horrible way of typing things lately.
What I meant to say was:
I am wondering if the 250cc type motorcycles can hold a rider + stuff that would weigh over 320lbs or if it would break (or ride wrong...or something).
I hope that makes better sense

Then yes, the 250 I own is rated for 375 pounds total, so unless you and your gear weigh more than that you'll be fine.

I've often wished I weighed a little more on my Ninja 250... But not enough to actually want to gain weight. I'm 175 at the moment.

What I always found interesting is that the little tiny bikes have just about the same max load weight as a Gold Wing.
In reality, a 300lbs weight would affect a 250cc bike a lot more than a 1800cc behemoth.
Another thing to remember is that a max load will severely affect the power on a 250 where on a literbike, you wouldn't even notice.
