OK, So I'm putting new plug wires and caps on the CB750 I'm restoring and I noticed a difference in Ohms between the new set and old set.

My old wires with no caps are showing .2 Ohms

New wires with no caps are showing 11 K Ohms

What gives?

Did you buy the copper core (Low Ohms) or the carbon core (High ohms).

The higher ohms will give you a higher voltage spark, assuming your coil can deliver it.

There is a link to the wires I bought in my first post. I also still have the stock coils.

I should probably note that the stock wires have 5 K Ohms caps on them and I have replacements for those.

With the caps on, my stock wires showed about 5 K Ohms

With the caps on, my new wires showed about 13ish K Ohms

I seen the link, it just seemed a little unclear as to the exact composition. It appears the gray wires are the carbon core.

The resistance test is supposed to be from spark plug cap to cap on one coil.

Total 18-22K ohms

From wire to wire (Caps off) 13-17K ohms

Coil alone (secondary side) 13-17K ohms

Since coil alone and coil with wires are the same, I expect that honda prefers the copper core wires. ie: low resistance.

I suspect that you won't have any problems with the suppression wires despite their slightly increased resistance.

Next time get the copper core wires though...

This bike has electronic ignition though, Wouldn't that require suppressed core wires?


I guess I should give more info about the bike, It's a '82 CB750SC Nighthawk.
