hello tmw ,im very proud to say that ive been riding a full week now (woohoo) and am loving it. I feel more and more comfortable every time out.I made it out to the highway for a quick 15 mile trek and was somewhat overwhelmed by the wind even though it was a fairly calm day. My long winded (ha,ha)question is how much would a windshield really help?

A good windshield will channel the air around you. It will give you a pocket of calmer air behind the screen. Particularly useful in cold days but all around helpful. In wind, it may catch some, but its not terrible. I haven't been blown away or scared for my safety.

I picked up a National Cycle F16 windscreen for my bike and it is excellent.

If you cannot find a particular one listed for your bike, measure the headlight, then find a universal mount screen that fits that size headlight.

I've used a windshield ever since I started riding 24 years ago and used mostly a Plexi 2 type shield year round for years. For the past 5 years or so I've put a Spitfire windshield on for summers and the National Cycle Plexi 2 for winters here in NE Ohio. I like the more wind in the face with the Spitfire and it's all you really need for summer rides. Makes a great difference taking the wind load off your chest making highway/freeway travel much more comfortable. I've done a number of 400 mile freeway days at 75-80 mph indicated with the Spitfire comfortably. There is much more rain protection with the Plexi 2 type though.

A windshield makes a huge difference in a nekkid bike. Like gsJack said, taking that wind load off your chest makes a huge difference in how much more comfortable you are on the superslab.

I have this little speedscreen on my R1150R and believe it or not, makes a big difference.

I should point out one does eventually become accustomed to the wind. I have a quarter-faired bike with a screen (V-strom) and a completely naked bike (Bonneville), so I know the difference. I've been riding the Bonneville at 75mph on the freeway for several years, still don't even have a flyscreen on that bike (I may eventually get one, but that's just because I like how flyscreens look.....)

I really feel the wind at high speeds on the superslab on the Hypermotard. The tall seat height, the bolt upright stance combined with the way forward(very close to the front tire) seating position really makes you feel the wind....but like Mr. Stark said, I got used to it and it doesn't bother me at all. It does rip the velcro strap right open on my riding gloves however.

I used windshields on most of my bikes over the years. They're particularly nice if you do long highway rides.

Check out National Cycle's website. They've got all shapes and sizes. Personally, I've always been partial to their Plexi 2 & 3 models. They make wind almost a non-issue on a standard bike like yours.

I recently modded my Ninja 250 to have a windscreen. It certainly is possible to get used to the wind, but with the windscreen highways became much more enjoyable.

I love my Spitfire windscreen...inexpensive, installs in five minutes with simple tools, and allows me to still have the wind on my face (I ride with a full-face helmet). Great for the summers here....can't speak for winter yet...I've only been riding a couple of weeks, but the first week my bike was naked...and I noticed the difference right away...
