I'm kinda new to buying and selling used motorcycles. The ninja 250 I have is brand new, so the dealership pretty much did everything. My dad did most of it since I was underage (??) I guess.
Anyways, since I'm ready for a 2nd bike, I was wondering if there were any difficulties I should encounter when selling my ninja.
Its a 2007 Ninja 250 with no cosmetic damage and has around 3100 miles.
I don't know what I should price this at for one.
The bikes I'm looking at are the SV650s, ZZR600 and YZF600. They're sporty but not race ready.
I've seen some YZF's on craigslist for less than 3500 that seem to be in OK condition. Less than 25k miles, little or no cosmetic damage and are seemingly perfect.
Assuming I sell my ninja for 2300 (I need a price check on that) I would need to make at least $1000 to buy a 2nd bike for 3000 flat right? How are taxes handled in a private sale?
Once again, I'm a newbie to buying and selling used bikes, so I need help on both fronts, thanks,
Selling my bike
I don't know about the price, to some extent it is related to where you are. Look for similar year, mileage, condition, and price accordingly. From experience it's best to have an absolute lowest price in mind and then price somewhat higher as people will want to talk you down.
The buyer will pay taxes on the bike when they go register it, you have no responsibility in collecting taxes. You will simply sign over the owernship to the buyer (once they pay you of course), have a look at it there are usually instructions to the seller and buyer on it.
Some things to consider:

Some things to consider:
- Don't let anyone ride your bike until they have paid you
Decide if you are going to sell the bike certified or as-is before you list it
Check on insurance cost of the bike you want to buy BEFORE you sell your Ninja
Always remember what your absolute bottom price was once the negotiating starts and be prepared to let a buyer walk.

What does Kelly's Blue Book say? ($1700 - $2525)
Every thing Flesher says is good. You do want to sell the bike "as is" or with the original transferable warranty included. I have a buyer/seller sign a 'Bill Of Sale' that includes this language.

People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.
