the petcock or whateve the term is for the gas on, primer, etc setting seeps gas when the setting is "On". Its enough to have to shut off the valve when it is parked. I am selling this bike and I wanted to be able to tell the prospectiove buyer what they might need. Perhaps the whole unit or could it just be as simple as a gasket? its a Honda Rebel 450. It may use the same part as the 250, i can't imagine it would cost much. This seems like a small repair to me, am I right?

Check the fuel line on the thing for cracks ... probably just a leak in the hose ...

if it was a leak in the line wouldn't it be leaking all the time? This is only when the gas is "On". and it specifically drips off the lever on the petcock

Honda lists a new petcock at $140
That's way too expensive. The only way to know if something's wrong on the inside is to take it apart and find out. Or you could contact some bike wreckers and see if they have a working one. You local honda dealership "should" be able to tell you what petcocks are interchangeable w/ that model, or vice that, they should be able to sell you a whichever part is broken in yours (Like a gasket) they all still seem to be available.
