Loud Gear Clang

Hi folks,
I've been renting several different bikes lately to get an idea of which one I like before buying. Last week I tested a V-star 750, this week a V-Star 1300. One thing I noticed on the 1300 was that when I shifted gears you could hear the "clang" noise when going from gear to gear a lot louder than on the 750.

Could this have something to do with the fact that the 750 has a shaft drive where as the 1300 was a belt drive?

Thanks in advance. :)

That's because they have an automotive tranny and an automotive clutch. The BMW tranny are clunky but they are not noisy ala Harley Davidson.
