Ok I see the only dif between the two is a little more claimed horsepower in the 696 and mechanically a tighter engine set up which makes for hard to do gear head work. Other then that the ride and so on seems the same. Can anyone tell me what the dif is between them?
I have not ridden either or them. I do, however, read just about every word every moto-journo prints.
The 696 beats out the 695 in almost every objective way: power, weight, ground clearance, chassis design (presumably) and comfort.
The 695, however, should be cheaper, looks different (you may prefer it), has an established aftermarket (the 696 will too soon), and has cam bearings which may or may not affect long-term reliability.
Edit: The 696 also has more sophisticated fuel injection from a different supplier than the 695. The additional power is mainly from the new fuelling, improving air flow through the heads, and a different airbox.
Its up to you. The 696 is sexy and state-of-the-art and the 695 is classic.

My wife has an S2R 800 and we both love the bike. I rode the new 696 and it is better than the S2R IMO. The new look is polarizing, you either love it or hate it. Most classic designs seem to start out that way. Buy the 696.
