Saying hello

Hi y'all! Back on two wheels (nice weather only).

After letting my bike sit for about 15 years waiting to have the time to even think about riding and maintaining my bike, I'm back on the road, mostly to work and back. Just got my '83 V65 Magna back on the road by having the carbs rebuilt and fixing a few electrical things that storage hurts.

Beautiful machine, but almost a waste to usebecause s most roads I drive are 50 mph max. Just don't need a $$ ticket and the annoyance that comes with it. Actually thinking of downsizing to a Ninja 250 to save the fuel and to wind out some gears legally - or nearly legally. If I do, then I'll have to sell the beast to someone else who can enjoy it. Sad in a way, but probably the right thing to do...

Advice?

:welcome2: to TMW.

So what's the problem withriding your Honda at 50mph? I'm not being a smart a$$....I'm asking because I don't know.

Thanks for the posts!!! Get the 250 And keep the Magna. Now you must know that what I really WANT to do! Right now I'm just shopping for a used 250, so I'm sure I'll have a few hundred more miles on the Magna before I make any moves. I started with a '72 Honda CB350, then A Kawasaki LTD 550, then the '83 V45 Magna, and now the "beast". Loved them all!

What's wrong with riding the beast at 50 mph? Very good question, thanks again! It's smooth at any speed and quiet at 50, but I'd like to work the engine for fun, and 0 to 50 isn't not much of a challenge for it. And riding a 250 keeps more American money here rather than sending it to the middle east. I figure that in a way it saves gas for other things like driving a Suburban sometimes and occasionally pulling the kids on water skis. Like sucking down a diet Coke with Pizza. I try to tell my kids "You can have anthing you want, but you can't have evertyhing."

Oh, and the feet forward riding position on the Magna (all stock) makes for a bad mix of bumps and spinal shocks, and I have a fair helping bumps on the route to work. I take to using the passenger pegs a lot, but I don't like the loss of control that brings.

Then there's the cardinal sin of stoking the motorcycle thirst in my kids when I've seen the limps and attended one bike related funeral... I really try to contain my enthusiasm. When they reach 25 maybe I won't.

Fireguzzi.... Is that your bike in the photo? Looks like a late 60's Triumph T100C...a great bike!

Cheers,
