i was wondering what your thoughts are for manufacterers in the 600cc area. Who is good for reliability and handling? who would be the best for a newer rider like myself? kawasaki? suzuki? yamaha or honda? thanks

Hey bro,

Umm 600cc is quite a high engine for a starter, the kawa 250cc is a great starter bike, ask anyone.

If you're talking about sport bikes, stay away from the 600's. ;)

I don't know much about sport bikes, so I couldn't make a very good recomendation.

And, even if you're absoutely positively going to buy a 600cc no matter what, I'd still suggest you read this: viewtopic.php?t=937

Even if you've already made up your mind, it's still a good read, and useful info to pass on to other bikers.

Check out the beginner's forum, also I would recommend the SV650. Only if you have some prior riding experience.

I think there is a sticky pretty much saying you will croak yourself on a 600 sportbike for your first bike.

I think a used (not abused) 250 Ninja would be plenty of power, cost effective and it might not even kill you.

But, it is a free country (countries, we are multinational here). So buy a 600cc sport bike and go for broke, heck buy a Hayabusa if you have the cash. I saw a website that shows you how to push it past 200bhp. Get it dawg

/sarcasm

I am not trying to be a jerk, but if you are looking for justification of your desire to ride a 600cc sportbike, you are in the wrong set of forums.

Ninja 500 or GS500 would probably be your best bet.

Consider buying an older bike as your first as well- Most people 'trade up' after their first season or two anyways, and a good bike will constantly be in demand (Ninja 250s for example) and you won't have to take a huge hit on resale value.

Sorry, may have been a little harsh. I read my comments after I posted.

I sure think a 250 Ninja would be the best bet
