Riding a Vino 125 for past year, is a 600cc too much power?

I have been riding a Yamaha Vino 125 scooter for over a year. I am 6' 3" and 200 lbs. I am in the mood to upgrade and was wondering if going to a 600cc sportbike is too much of a jump? I have also ridden a Yamaha TW200 for about 6 months so far. I wouldn't consider myself a newbie when it comes to HOW to ride etc. But I am new to the weight different in the 600ccs and obviously power and breaks. What do you think? Am I still too much of a newb or should I be okay taking it slow? BTW, I have read the awesome article about starting out on a 600cc and completely agree but I am guessing that is geared towards people who have never ridden before. I've ridden, just not with so much power.

Thanks,

depends

600cc cruiser or 600cc sport bike?

Forgetting the weight of either compared to the Vino, the sport bike will feel like you just strapped a rocket to your @ss compared to that Vino. The cruiser will be a lot more forgiving if you drop the clutch or roll on the throttle a bit too much - even in a lower gear.

Also, read the last sticky post at the top of this page.

I was referring to a 600cc sportbike. having also been riding a TW200 for the past 6 months, does that make me any more prepared for a 600 sportbike? I was also thinking of getting a nice standard bike too like the Honda Spirit. Also, how about a V-twin compared to an inline 4? would that be a smarter choice or still a disaster? Guess I got a lot to think about.

A 600cc sportbike will have close to 5 times the hp of that TW200. Why not look at the Kawasaki and Suzuki 500cc bikes?

i think I'll just play it extra safe and stick to the ninja 250r. Looks awesome too! It'll probably be cramped but I'd rather be slightly uncomfortable and alive than otherwise.

Thanks.

The ninja 250 feels about the same to me compared to the tw. I even get to compare them every weekend

However, check out the ninja 500 or the sv650 or ninja 650r. All would be fine choices for someone who's moving up from a scooter/tw

Heck, if you liked the TW200 get a big Dual sport.. Suzuki DR650, Kawasaki KLR650, Honda XR650. Even the Yamaha WR250R-Fuel injected 30HP
