I am looking for my first bike to ride to work and back a few days a week. It is about 20 miles open highway one way. I found an 02 250 nighthawk for 1800. WIll I be disappinted with a little bike like this?
I also found a 90 Secca for 2000, but not sure how comfortable those lean over sport type bikes would be.
ANy advice is appreciated!

I went on craigslist and found a bunch of 250 Ninjas. There were 08 for under $4200 and I didn't see any 07 for over $2800.

Depending on the motor size (600 would be ideal) I think the seca would be a better bike for the highway than a nighthawk. It's not as aggressive a sitting position as a true sportbike, had decent but not overwhelming power (60 hp claimed) and nicer is response to all inputs- especially braking!

It is a 600. What kind of mileage would this get? Can I carry sadle bags?

Is the ninja a better bike? It looks like those bikes would be uncomfortable.

I used to average right around 50. Sometimes more, sometimes less. And yes you can add saddlebags

Looks aren't everything. Underneath the plastic hides a very standard bike with a fairly straight up riding position. Is it for you? You won't know for sure unless you sit on one and see for yourself.
If you're going to be spending time at highway speeds AND you're interested in gas mileage, it's hard to beat the little Ninja.

i love ninjas, and the craigslist post was deleted by author
250 is sometimes a litttle small for highways, but it should generally be fine. other than that, i didnt think that either of the bikes in your initial post were super deals
since the summer is winding down, you should be able to find a pretty cheap bike.
