Galfer Wave Rotors Problem.....

hey everyone, i have a question for all of you riders whose got galfer wave rotors on their bikes.....i just got an 03 Kawi ZX6RR from a dealership. it comes with galfer wave rotors in the front and back..well when i take it home, i felt the bike is pulsating, not like vibrating, but irregular continuous jerks when i press on the front brake lever. This happens not only when i was going slow, but rather at any speed i was going at. I spoke with the manager at the dealership and he wont give a damn, he said that it he had 3 mechanics rode on the bike, and admitted that it pulsated when it's cold but when those rotors warmed up, it didn't happen. so he said that it's not a safety issue, and there is nothing to fix. well the issue here is i called up several of my friends who goes on track alot and he said that no rotors are suppose to pulsate, if it does, sumthing is wrong, either its warped or bent in someway......

im not saying that i do not trust my friends, but i jus wanna get more opinions on this matter...

i greatly appreciate those who would reply,

thank you

Some sets of these things just pulse. I've had people swap their stock rotors w/ these ans some have mentioned the pulse, some didn't. I even had one guy who went back to his stock setup because he couldn't get used to the pulsing.

I don't think it's a safety issue. You're riding a race replica motorcycle which is built to roll and stop at speeds well over the speed limit. On bikes like this, the brakes suspension and motor all aren't working optimally until you've at least hit highway speeds. I think you'll get used to it over time, but I don't think you can get the dealership to do anything for you.

You can also go to a regular disc setup if it bothers you that much - the only think the wave rotors do is lighten your unsprung mass by about 1 lb per disc... something that you'll probably never notice in street riding anyway.

i called up Galfer USA, and they said that the rotors sometimes pulse when im going from 10-15 miles to a stop, but not suppose to happen when im going at a higher speed. And for this reason i doubt that the rotors are okay...this morning i had the dealership take them rotors off and send them to Galfer USA to be checked. Hopefully they will use micrometer to check on the rotor cuz from what i heard from sum website that i checked out yesterday, someone sent a rotor back to them because of the same problem and what they did was they only check one side by one side, not both, which is probably the greatest indicator of why the jerks are happening...

Any shop with a micrometer (or even a simple straightedge) should be able to check this. The fact that the dealership couldn't tell you whether the rotors are warped is a good indication of their incompetance.

At any rate, it's a good thing that the dealership did send them -somewhere- to be checked ... to bad you're out of a bike in that time.

absolutely--what kind of dealership lacks a simple dial indicator set to check the runout on a brake disc??

haha....the dealer that i bought it from is called BERTS MEGAMALL!!

located in So CAL,

well, after talking with the Service manager, he was being an "arse", and wont give a damn. surely, after i talked to the owner of BERTS MEGAMALL, he referred me to the General Manager of the whole store, and the GM was very cool and friendly with everything.

so, now, the rotors are being sent to GALFER USA, and have them check it, and after that if its bad theyll replace me with new galfer rotors :D

great! however, beware of the manager and the mechanics on the Service Dept !

they never do their sh*ts right and lags very much...
