My bike has standard saddlebag buckles. They're kind of a pain. My buddy has bags with hidden quick release plastic buckles. Has anyone tried to retrofit a standard bag with these plastic buckles?

OK. Uhh.. I guess not.

Well I may give it a shot. These bags came with the bike and they're a little weather beaten anyway. I have an old backpack laying around so I'll attempt a retrofit. If it works, I'll post some results.

Brought my Shadow home from TN. It fit in the back of my Odyssey no problem. The gas inside had turned to sludge but my mechanic cleaned it and the carburetor. A new battery and it's like new.

It came with saddlebags that have the quick clip concealed behind a standard looking buckle but I can't figure how to hang them so that they feel secure. It seems they would flap around too much unless I find a way to secure them to the frame. Any ideas?

I use quick release plastic buckles all the time for backpacks and bags. They should work really well for saddlebags. I buy the buckles and nylon webbing from a local outdoor store, MEC. The buckles last a long time and rarely break. Buckles from old backpacks may be cheap and prone to premature breakage, so I never use them. Buy some nylon webbing while you're at it.

If you have some decorative flaps on top of the buckles you can sew some velcro to keep them stuck down.
