Hello, everybody.I just signed up.I live in the vancouver BC area.Gas price today is 1.40 a litre thats about 6.00 a gallon. So I am thinking of selling my truck and buying a honda rebel.I have never owned a bike before.I would need to tow a small trailer to get my 60lb. pontoon boat to the lakes.I would also need to put my wife on the back once in awhile.(not while fishing)Do you folks think this is a good starter bike that will do this?

No motorcycle can tow a boat trailer like that, especially not a rebel. It can't handle a passenger either.

I don't know if you were trolling or not, but I answered seriously because I remember a long time ago asking if I could put studded motorcycle tires on a hayabusa and run it in the winter.

I have towed a 700 lb trailer around North America but the Rebel is a bit small for the job.

Thank you.I'm not talking boat trailer.Just a small flat trailer for a pontoon that deflates and breaks down to just over 4.5 ft. Too big for a back pack.Perhaps a 450 or 500 or are they too big for a beginner?I should say I have been driving for many years, I'm 54 but never a motorbike.

Put it this way, a 500 cruiser wouldn't be too big for a beginner, but definitely wouldn't be big enough to haul anything like that. To do that you're going to have to go above 1000 ccs, even for a small trailer.

Reading your original post a 60 lb load in a very light trailer should not be a problem. I have thousands of miles behind me with a bike trailer. I know that the place that I bought my big trailer from rented one to a guy with a 450. So the people who are saying you can't are wrong.
