I passed the MSF two weeks ago and picked up a 2003 Honda Shadow Spirit 750 four days ago. Been riding with Jeans, Boots, Jacket, 3/4 Helmet, and sunglasses. Would like to know what other Floridians wear when riding, assuming you want to be covered up. I see many guys riding with shorts, tank tops, and no helmet but I feel I should wear gear, ESPECIALLY, while just starting out. Any input would be appreciated.

Going to be buying some actual protection in the next couple of weeks (waiting on some money that's coming to me), but in the mean time I'm wearing a full face helmet, hiking boots, and a cheap imitation leather jacket I have. It's not much, but it's something for now.
I'm looking for a good mesh jacket with a liner for cooler weather, and I'll be picking up some really great boots some friends of mine turned me onto at Walmart; oil skid and water resistant for $39. I'm thinking about pants too. I mean, I normally wear pants when I ride, but over-pants for some knee and hip protection. And I'm definitely getting some gloves too.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that even in my heavier jacket and a full face helmet I don't get too hot when riding. So I'm thinking a mesh jacket will be no sweat, literally

Take a look at
www.motodirect.com for inexpensive mesh jackets and pants with full armor.

Homer (standing at the window without pants on): I'm going to be an inventor!
Guy Passing by:Hey fatty! Do us a favor and invent yourself some pants.
Moe (The SImpsons): "They think they're so high and mighty, just because they never got caught driving without pants."
Anyhow I found some cheap Joe Rocket and FIrstgear mesh pants here:
www.ridegear.com and I'm sure there are dealers who sell the Icon Hooligan jacket which is pretty cheap.

I ordered some mesh gear and gloves from MotoDirect. I'll let you'll know how they work out after I ride with them for a while. Thanks for the info.

Which did you get? I'm looking at some mesh gear on that site too. I'm interested to hear your impressions

I got the Nitro Racing mesh jacket, similar to this:

It works great, very breathable and plenty of armor. It actually keeps you fairly dry during our afternoon thunderstorms we get here in central FL
