Congrats on your new bike!!
If your BF is serious, and has never ridden before, a C109RT is waaaayy too big to start on - that's a 700+ lb bike! If he likes Suzuki cruisers, tell him think C50T - or even better (lighter) - S50 - or even better than that, a used Marauder or Intruder.

+1!
Although, I sat on a S50 the other day, and while I'm only 5'4", my knees seemed awfully close to my teeth.

Oh, he knows it's waaaay toooo big-he lookes like an ant sitting on it! He has ridden before, he just let his license lapse because he was travelling a lot for work and didn't have time for it (or a place to store a bike, for that matter). He used to deliver pizzas on a bike waaaaay back when.
I've also seen him ride a friend's Road King with no problems. I'm not condoning it, and he and said friend got an earful after I caught him. But I actually was pretty impressed-he was doing figure 8's on it. I could barely do them for the exam, and he whips them out in a much tighter space on that big ol' bike.
He actually reaallly likes the S40 (he rode it in the parking lot and up the ramp into the truck while I was inside signing paperwork). I asked if he enjoyed his "ride", he went on and on about it. I said "Good, 'cause that's the last ride you take on it without a license!"

He agreed. I think he was at the DMV when he called me earlier.
Now that I'm riding, I think he's been bitten by the bug again. I still want him to take the MSF course though.

Congratulations on your first bike! That's the bike I have as a newbie and I love it too! Easy to handle, the seat height is perfect, the get up and go is not bad, and the low end torque is good for me, cause I don't like to shift every two seconds. My bike likes to cruise at 60 with no problems at all, but if I push it to around 75 it will start to vibrate a little, so I slow down.
Enjoy your bike, what color did you get?

It's great to get a new toy....
Now you have to save up and get all the extra

I got the silver-it's sooooo purty
However, the universe is conspiring against me-we have had nonstop "pop up" thunderstorms since I brought it home. I haven't been able to ride it since I got it. It's not the rain that bothers me-it's the lightning and the hail and the 60 mph gusts.
So, dr_bar, while the weather is not cooperating, do tell me more about this "safety chrome" for the S40...I know I'd like a sissy bar and saddlebags in the near future....

I think the Savage(S40) is one of the nicest and cleanest looking cruiser on the market. The big thumper sounds real sweet too. I saw a visitor's Silver S40 parked in front of my neighbor's house just the other day and I was thinking how nice that bike looks in silver.

Here's a good Suzuki Savage/S40 forum you might like, it's always convenient to have a bike specific forum to check for your bike as well as a good general forum like this one. They've probably already answered any questions you might have on your new S40. I'm considering a S40 as a last bike.
