Well I have only put about 4500-5000 miles on my tires and need to replace the rear one already. I put the stock on cause thats what was on it. What brand tire should I look at as a replacement that will get me more that 4500-5000 miles? I mean im used to my van which gets about 40,000 miles on a tire so im shocked at only getting 5k miles. I still have some tread left so I prob wont get new tires till I put the bike up for the winter (that way it can sit in a heated shop till they decide they have the time to put the tire on lol) but thought I would start looking/asking now.

I've been running D404s on my Virago for the past 5k and have been very happy with them. Holding up well.

hmm looking at reviews of the tire people seem to avg 9k miles on them. Much better than 4-5k.

Most companies make a high mileage tyre, however they may not handle as well because of harder rubber compound (some tyres have softer sidewalls for handling and harder center for wear) The best I have seen for mileage are AVON Saftey Mileage but they only come in 5.00X16. Other good high mileage are Avon AM42/41 Venom, several different Connies and Metzes are high mileage, on the cheaper side Chen Shen's Maxxis, Hi-Max and Marquis are high mileage tyres for less than 1/2 the price of Avon, Metzes, Connies or DunStops.

+1 on the avons...

I'm not an agressive rider, but I got better than 30,000kms (18,300 miles)out of my Venom X's on my Virago 1100. My Valk still working on the last pair I bought, but they're my next purchase for the Venture.

and you said this because?????????

dr_bar stated he is on 18k miles on his tires. thats 18,000 miles not 18000KM.

I found some avons that are $170 plus whatever the mounting fees are. Supposedly rated for 15,000 miles (thats what the dealer told me anyways). Oh and they are the same size as my rear tire :D.

I like putting miles on my bike. I'll need tires like that too - when the time comes.

But infuriatingly enough the current tires are pretending like they are going to last a million miles. Well, ok. 5,200 miles so far, but they appear to be wearing very well.

Rhadam- are you judging by just tread depth, or also by "squaring off" of the tire's profile? I've got a back tire now with only 7K on it, adequate tread depth, but it's on the short list 'cause it got more squared off than I like.

I look at mine with tread depth. Even the sides are starting to "thin out" lol. I cant see the top of lincolns head yet though but its close.
