Hey everyone, I'm new to this whole motorcycle scene, i'm 19 and just got my M1 license haha. i'm trying to decide what bike i should start with: its either a ninja 500R or GS500f (also thinking about the ninja 250). I really appreciate your guys' input and knowledge, THANKs.

I have a 2007 GS500F and I love it. I've never ridden the 500R so I can't comment on that model.

Find a dealer and sit on em for a while. Look at em for a while.
Decide which one tickles your fancy the most, and get that one.

I have the 500R. When I went to purchase my bike, the shop had both bikes, so I sat on both and sat on both. The ergonomics of the 500R fit me better than the GS500F. Sitting on both bikes is a must to see which fits your body better.

the GS has more up-right seating posistion with the handlebars are higher. The 500R Would be more of a Sporty-like posistion as the handlebars are lower almost like clip-ons. Look at NWtrtle's avatar.
So if you want a sporty-like bike you might just like the Ninja.
But you still deffinatley need to sit on both bikes first.

I installed a pair of bar risers on my 500R. Raised the bars up an inch and a quarter. It was a nice improvement.

I installed a set of GenMar risers on my GS500, moved the bars up 1" and back 1 3/8".
